Patting myself on the back.
Christopher Alexander would be proud.

Within four months of getting my job at the Mattress Factory, I decided to move into the neighborhood where work was.
The apartment is tiny. ~300 sq ft tiny.
I walk to work each day.
I bike a couple times a week (at least once to do errands; at least once for exercise).
I don't eat much meat (yeah, but once in a great while I do. It's just. So. Damned. Tasty.).
I use CFLs.
If I'm not in a room, I turn off the lights.
I take things from other people's garbage.
I plug all my appliances with a transformer into a power strip and switch it to the off position before I leave for work.
I use a laptop, not a desktop.
I wash my clothes in cold water with dye and perfume free detergent.
I shower every other day.
I brush with the water off.
I water my plants with old kitty cat water and old Lindsaylou water.
I try and grow some of my food each summer.
I did this even when I lived at the Brew House.
I don't drive much. 1x a week. When my car's working.
I try to limit my use of my A/C (window unit). This one is hard because I kinda hate summer heat.
In the winter, I keep my place at 50 degrees F.
I try to only buy 25% of the stuff my mom does. We're chronic bargain shoppers.
I reuse when I can.
I shop thrift stores. The cheap ones, not the trendy ones.
I helped remodel my kitchen using 80% or so reclaimed materials:
Old stove.
Old fridge (okay, so that one isn't the best idea, but I don't have money for a new fancy Energy Star).
Old bowling alley for a huge countertop.
Old farm sink.
Old cabinets from my landlords' basement.
Old shutters (yet to be hung).

You may say I do the above things because I'm cheap. You may say I do the above things because I'm hyper-aware of my footprint in this world.

You are right.
